"Terrorism is an attack on the aim of society to ensure freedom from fear. It can be any violation that causes fear." - In Terrorist Attacks: What Works Works, a book written by Arthur L. Caplan, this quote is shown to help provide a broad understanding of what a terrorist attack really means and how it can affect an individual or society. The attacks of 11 September 2001 brought terrorism into the forefront as never before seen in America before. Despite world events occurring since then, there has been no let up in the number of terrorist attacks that have been happening throughout the world today making terrorism something that plagues our everyday life. The start of the first attack was at 8:46 a.m. when American Airlines Flight 11 crashed into the north tower of the World Trade Center in New York City. At 9:03 a.m., United Airlines Flight 175 crashed into the south tower of the World Trade Center (1). This was followed by an explosion below the Pentagon at 9:37 a.m., although it is yet unclear whether this was caused by American Airlines Flight 77 or Delta Air Lines Flight 1989 (2). At 10:03, American Airlines Flight 77 crashed into The Pentagon (3). The third plane that was hijacked was American Airlines Flight 93 at 10:15 a.m., and crashed in a field in the Pennsylvania countryside (4). The fourth plane that was hijacked was United Airlines Flight 175 at 10:20 a.m. and crashed into the South Tower of the World Trade Center (5). At 11:37, United Airlines Flight 93 crashed in a field near Shanksville, Pennsylvania (6). The following are the other events that occurred on 11 September 2001 other than the obvious terror attack on New York City. It is highly speculated that other planes were taken out by terrorists as well, but due to lack of powerful evidence, there is no solid proof to support this claim. The very first plane that was hijacked was American Airlines Flight 11 which left from Boston's Logan International Airport at 7:59 a.m. with 81 passengers and 11 crew members onboard. It made a stopover in New York City's John F. Kennedy Airport with its destination being Los Angeles, California (7). At 8:14 a.m., the pilot of Flight 11, Captain John Ogonowski informed the air traffic controllers that the plane had been hijacked, and that they "couldn't breathe." The second plane that took off from Boston's Logan International Airport was United Airlines Flight 175 which left at 8:14 a.m. bound for Los Angeles, California with 58 passengers and 9 crew members onboard. The plane made a stopover in New York City's John F. Kennedy Airport, before continuing its route to Los Angeles (8). The third plane that took off was American Airlines Flight 77 which left from Washington D.C's Dulles Airport at 8:20 a.m. bound for Los Angeles with 53 passengers and 6 crew members onboard (9). It made a stopover in New York City's John F. Kennedy Airport before continuing its route to Los Angeles (8). The fourth plane that took off was United Airlines Flight 93 which left from Newark International Airport at 8:42 a. cfa1e77820
